The Governor of Kaduna state, Mr. Uba Sani, has issued a directive to halt the collection of levies by the management of Kaduna State University B (KASU) as of Monday
.
According to a statement from Mr. Muhammad Shehu, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kaduna State, the governor expressed concern that the collection of levies is contradictory to the downward revision of existing fees that the State Government announced in 2023. This revision was implemented as a way to help mitigate the impact of the general increase in the cost of living in the country, particularly following the removal of petroleum subsidies.
According to him, “The Kaduna State Government is committed to ameliorating the suffering of the people. It will continue to initiate policies, programmes and projects to bring succour to the poor, underserved and the vulnerable.
“It shall continue to take all necessary measures to ensure access to free and qualitative education for every citizen in Kaduna State from primary to tertiary level.”
